The painting in the staircase and upper hallway are finally finished enough to allow us to take down the scaffold which blocked them. The painting crew will pick up speed as they get their feet back on the ground. One giant scaffold remains for just a little longer to allow us to install the first of the decorative pieces and the electrical fixtures in the upper reaches of the sitting area. There’s a small kitchenette in the North Star Suite. As with all of the other areas of the Hazelnut Inn, it will be fully themed from its tall ceilings to its tiled floor. The Imagination Corporation’s painting crew has now finished the base coats of paint and is moving on to the various glazes and patinas. Stay tuned…

The folks at the Imagination Corporation are storytellers extraordinaire. And, they have pulled out all the stops for the Hazelnut Inn!

For instance, legend has it, the North Star Suite was once the home of Temperance Longbottom. An eccentric explorer and caretaker of artifacts and curiosities from mythical lands of dream and fairytale. And each element of the suite is lovingly designed and crafted with exquisite care to tell this story.

Even the soaker tub - just big enough for two, is nestled in the middle of a massive stone sculpture. Even more detail is sculpted into the magical stones. Look close and you will see an octopus carved into the hot tub enclosure. Today Kendra skillfully applied the third to last coat of glaze.

As the Imagination Corporation’s painting crew skillfully works their way down from the upper reaches of the North Star Suite, the walls and features gradually become closer to their final hues.

This view is towards the sitting area looking at the front door. Each separate area is both grandiose and comfortably cozy at the same time. The areas of this suite are all separated vertically to create a suite like none other. Specialty custom lighting will be focussed on key areas of the room and when combined with many layers of richly trimmed curtains and tapestries, it is going to be nothing short of spectacular when everything is complete. It isn’t often a bathroom is truly themed to match the other rooms in a hotel but the three bathrooms of Hazelnut Inn will be beautiful exceptions. We will still make it functional and easy to care for by using lots of colourful ceramic tile and smooth plaster on the balance of the surfaces. Peter finished installing the cement board backing which will be under the tile this afternoon. The specialty tile is all on order and as soon as it arrives we’ll begin the installation. Stay tuned…

The Imagination Corporation has a good-sized painting crew laying on the paint inside the North Star Suite. As they triple-coat the base colours it doesn’t look like much is accomplished because at the end of the day the walls, ceilings and beams are the same colour as they were the day before.

However, a dramatic change occur when the talented crew gets to the glazes! In what seems like an instant everything comes to life. Rich patinas and weathered cracks appear like magic. This space is going to be like no other! Stay tuned…
